The B-52’s: “Give Me Back My Man (Party Mix)” (1981)
The miniaturized version of their party platter turns out to be a party pooper.
Kronomyth 2.6: Fish and candy, don’t mix.
This is the reason I don’t go to more parties; they’re only slightly more fun than staying at home and listening to life on the record player. Give Me Back My Man is a great song, don’t get me wrong. It may be Cindy Wilson’s finest moment as a singer with The B-52’s. But the party mix presented here is just the album track you know and love with a handful of pretzels and peanuts tossed in. There’s a short synthesizer solo about four-and-a-half minutes in that’s interesting, and that’s about it. The instrumental version of Party Out of Bounds is even more boring as it strips away the sizzle (i.e., the vocals) and leaves you with the gristle. Give me back my Party Mix EP, says I.
