Split Enz – “My Mistake” (1977) Review | Something to Get Wound Up About
Kronomyth 3.1: A comedy of errors
This is one of my favorite songs from Dizrhythmia: playful pop with a streak of dementia. My Mistake takes the idea of a brokenhearted lover trying to console himself and failing miserably, then wraps it up in a ridiculously catchy tune. The result is both salty and sweet and just a little reminiscent of Sailor in its carnival sounds and sensibilities. The B side is Crosswords, another clever turn of phrase about quarreling lovers from the same album. In the UK, a 12-inch single was released that included The Woman Who Loves You from Second Thoughts, a scatterbrain mix of more music hall madness. This single wasn’t released in the US, although we weren’t ready for Split Enz just yet.
