The Nice Discography
It was The Nice while it lasted (1967 to 1969), after which the band splintered into Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Jackson Heights/Refugee.

When this world spaghetti-strings into sweet oblivion, The Nice will be fleetingly remembered as a fascinating footbridge between Cream and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The group left behind some indelible moments of mad delirium (“Flower King of Flies,” “Bonnie K”) and quasi-classical rock (“Ars Longa Vita Brevis,” “Five Bridges”) that stood as tall as anything from the early psychedelic rock spelunkers. At the center of this musical maelstrom was Keith Emerson, whose overamplified keyboards belched forth as much fire and smoke as any guitarist. Slightly to the left stood Lee Jackson from the storied line of singing bass guitarists and, behind them, Brian Davison on the drums. Initially a four-piece band featuring an actual guitarist, David O’List, The Nice slimmed down to a power trio after The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack. Four more albums followed, two of them released posthumously, highlighted by Emerson’s classical fancies and Jackson’s radical songcraft and unconventional singing. Emerson apparently outgrew the group and left to form Emerson, Lake and Palmer, while Jackson and Davison channeled their energies into Jackson Heights and, later, Refugee. The first four albums from The Nice should be deemed required listening by prog aficionados, while the repackaged product that followed is best avoided.
