Jon and Vangelis: “I’ll Find My Way Home” (1981)
When you’re alone and life is making you lonely, you can always listen to this.
Kronomyth 2.3: The friends of mr. casio
It’s lovely that people have fond associations with this song but, c’mon, it’s the melody from “Downtown” for crying out loud. This is not the music they will play in Heaven. (Maybe on the elevator going up to Heaven…) That said, I wish Jon Anderson had done an orchestrated version of I’ll Find My Way Home for Change We Must. If you love this song, you really owe it to yourself to hear “Hurry Home,” preferably from the aforementioned album. Now that song gives me chills. The flip side to this single is Back to School from their first album, Short Stories. Jon and Vangelis didn’t even bother to rip off a good song for “Back to School,” instead using a generic rock and roll riff that I’m pretty sure came pre-programmed on most cheap Casio keyboards. (An addendum from Mebyl Spaetzman: Three days on and I cannot get this song out of my head, so maybe Jon and Vangelis were onto something…)
