Nilsson – “Remember (Christmas)” (1972) Review | Heaven Is Christmas Is Right Now
Kronomyth 8.2: The Santa Escape Clause.
Leave it to Nilsson to write a bittersweet Christmas song. Remember (Christmas) is a nostalgic number that hearkens back to that lone sanctuary during the cruel months, Christmas. I’ve always viewed Christmas as a taste of heaven, a time when people actually practice peace and love. As we learn more about quantum physics, the idea of time/experience existing all at once no longer seems so far fetched (credit Kurt Vonnegut with discovering that first). And so the idea that the memory of Christmas is as valid as present “reality” holds true, and thus all of our life is just a dream or past remembered from a being who is already in Heaven. As you read this line right now, this may be a mere memory from a life lived eons ago. Which is all to say, if you fear you’re wasting your life, fear not, you’ve already wasted it. As interesting as all that is, the B side is the more interesting song. The Lottery Song is the “hail mary” hope of the hopeless. It’s often been said that if God didn’t exist man would have invented him, but I would say the same about the lottery. If it didn’t exist, man would invent it of necessity, as both speak to the need for an escape clause from life’s capricious cruelties.
